Outdoor Remote Control Nylon Blimps

Our outdoor Remote control nylon blimps utilize a more powerful electronic packet than our indoor models. They are designed for use at low altitudes outdoors in winds which are generally 12 mph or less.  These blimps are not to be confused with our high altitude airship product line which operates at 60,000 – 70,000 ft.
Our outdoor remote control nylon blimps are the ultimate in outdoor advertising for sporting events, concerts and fairs. Everything about the outdoor RC blimp product line is designed with safety in mind. With over 16 years experience in the manufacturing of radio controlled blimps, our systems are continuously changing and improving.

14' Outdoor RC Blimp

Powered by gas or electric engines depends upon the size of the blimp.  The outdoor remote control nylon blimp can operate in winds from 10 to 15 mph with full 360 degree vectoring that allows for complete reverse flight.  The gondola is either polystyrene or fiberglass, depending on the size of the blimp. The vector arm (movable arm which holds and rotates the motors) rotates 360 degrees and is made of FAA-approved T-6 aircraft aluminum, as are the motor mounts.  This design facilitates infinite hovering control as well as enabling the airship to reverse if needed.

18' Outdoor RC Blimp

Our blimps have fail-safe capabilities as a resolute of the spektrum technicality used in radio system enable to shut down in case of radio failure or interference.   This allows the blimp to slowly settle to the ground due to its being flown slightly heavier than air.

23' Outdoor RC Blimp

Our four standard sizes are 14’, 18’, 23’ and 32’ and the appropriate size will be determined by your venue, event needs, and elevation of your flying location.  We can also manufacture a custom size blimp which fits your needs. All outdoor remote control nylon blimps come standard with interchangeable banner areas and a selective drop device which allows you to fly multiple coupons, brochures and tickets, dropping one at a time.  There is an optional tethering kit (except the 14’ model) which will allow you to fly the blimp as a tethered unit on days when the wind speeds are too high.

32' Outdoor RC Blimp

Operational recommendations:
  • The FAA recommends not flying over 400 ft. above the surface.  When flying within three miles of an airport, notify the airport operator or when an air traffic facility is located at the airport, notify the control tower or flight service station.
  • It is not recommended that the outdoor blimp be flown in winds in excess of 10 to 15 mph depending on the size of you blimp (or less if turbulent or gusty).
  • Operational area recommended size for takeoff and landing is 200 ft. x 200 ft. (depending upon the size of the blimp) with minimum of 300 ft distance from any large obstructions (i.e. power lines, radio tower, large trees, etc).
  • A large truck, hanger facility or protective area should be available for banner attachment, servicing (refueling and battery changing) and protection for the blimp in case of inclement weather.
  • It is not recommended to fly the outdoor RC blimps in close proximity to power lines.

Flight characteristics:

  • The outdoor RC blimps can takeoff and land vertically in a rather limited area and switch to forward flight capability at any desired altitude.
  • In the forward flight mode, the blimp is flown like a fixed wing aircraft.
  • In the hover mode, the operation is similar to that of a helicopter.
  • During slow forward flight or hover in wind, the combination of these two techniques is used.

Training and Flight Operations:

  • Operation of the outdoor RC blimps should be conducted only by fully experienced. R/C pilots with knowledge of batteries, engines, radio transmitter, receiver, servo operations and the blimp's capabilities.
  • Two qualified pilots must be trained and certified in writing by our RC staff at Airworks Enterprises in Jackson, Mississippi, USA.  Training is not included in the price of the blimps, is quoted upon request.
